OMFCKIN GOD DMANN this happened to me as well, i was gona make a post to help you all who had this problem. My friends list just did not show anybody online, and just listed them in Alpha. order and did not say when they were last online. I was positive that I did sign in to the Playstation network, so i was so bloody angry cause i had a gb match that night, and had to forfeit it.
ANYWAY, this is the solution - it worked for me after searching for an hour on the internet trying various things:
Delete your psn comment, or if you do not have one, make one, and your friends list should come to life. PSN = grandma

I made a new PSN as well, and it has like a 3 kdr on cod4 lol
